Kenshi is easily the best design to come out of the "3D era" of MK games. Kenshi manages to retain some of the style & personality of the original Mortal Kombat series, and thus, fits in quite well with the rest of the cast. His "blind swordsman" gimmick isn't entirely original, but in fairness, he's a pretty cool design. His fighting style wasn't the smoothest or the coolest in the first few games he appeared in, but wasn't terrible. 

In MK9, NetherRealm Studios completely revamped his fighting style... and it's a big improvement to say the least. The fact that he uses his mind to control his sword isn't an original concept, but it definitely works in MK.  He's got some brutal, and slightly disturbing moves... especially that X-Ray. On a side note, his redesign reminds me of Keanu Reeves from The Matrix. lol.
