Hanzou (AKA Hanzo) is the young and rigorous leader of the Iga clan and a rival to Fuuma Kotaro. After Fuuma beat him when he was 19, he declared the other ninja as his rival and trains to not lose to him again. Sent to a world unknown to him, he continues to train and obtain enlightenment as a warrior. He considers himself naive, though he has hopes to one day be the greatest. He is based off of the real Hattori Hanzo, just like the Hanzo Hattori from the Samurai Shodown series.

So many fighting game dudes had this hairstyle in the 90's. Eiji is that you? Joe Higashi are you cosplaying a ninja? Clearly the "Ryu" of the World Heroes series, Hanzou originally came off as somewhat generic and unoriginal when he debuted. Even so, I suppose Hanzou was one of the cooler characters of World Heroes... but that's not saying too much. His original sprite seemed a bit bulky and clunky, but he had a few cool "90's ninja" moves at least. However, Hanzou's re-birth in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum actually came out rather well. SNK reimagined his appearance and moveset nicely. I thought it was kinda funny how Hanzou decided to go all Joe Higashi with his updated hairstyle... lol. Overall, I find Fuuma to be a little more interesting and likeable as a character, but Hanzou holds his own as a decent character in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.
