BIO:

Made queen of the land of Amazonia after her part in banishing the dark lord Gargos. Cast out by her tribe as Gargos returns, Maya must vanquish him to regain her throne. The return of the tyrannical Gargos to the ancient world is welcomed by few. Among his foremost adversaries are the Amazons of the great jungle, whose recently-crowned Queen, Maya, earned great respect for her part in the original banishment of the demonic warlords. Now that one of them has returned to lay his curse on the world, Maya's tribes folk cast her from the realm. Until the threat is permanently dealt with, she is forbidden to return. Mira is her fraternal twin sister.

Maya made a splash when Killer Instinct 2 came out at arcades. I remember more than a few gaming magazines highlighting her. It would be difficult for any straight teenage boy in the 90's not to be mildly attracted to Maya... because damn! She was definitely one of the most scantily clad fighting game females to date, and it made perfect sense since she lives in the jungle! On that note, the KI2 jungle stage was awesome!

A sexy Amazon warrior chick seemed like a perfect fit for Killer Instinct. Her original design is simple and to the point, like several other KI characters before her. Her combos and moveset were really fun... (I remember because I'm pretty sure I mastered every single character in KI Gold.) Good times on N64. Good times. After an 18 year absence... Maya finally returning in Killer Instinct (2013). Clearly, the devs set out to de-sexualize her by giving her lots of armor and covering her up. Sure, her new armor design is pretty cool... but I think her original look is overall better and more iconic. They should've kept closer to her original design, if you ask me.
