Thanos was born on
Saturn's moon Titan, a world believed uninhabited but actually the home
to an advanced offshoot of humanity. Thanos was dissatisfied by the peaceful
world, and left to begin his mission of conquest. In his travels, he met
the entity known as Death and became enamored with her. He soon devoted
all of his energies to pleasing her, and eventually became her servant.
Desiring to be her equal, he sought the Infinity Gems, six stones of great
power that would give him control over the universe.
When he finally obtained
the six gems and placed them on his Infinity Gauntlet, he gained unlimited
power. To impress Death, he extinguished half the lives in the universe,
and it took the combined might of many superheroes to finally stop him.
He was divested of the Gauntlet, and placed on an uninhabited planet where
he could cause no harm. He had since escaped, and it is only a matter of
