Yami is the main antagonist of Capcom's 3D action game Okami starring Amaterasu. Yami is also final boss of Tatsunoko VS Capcom and has three different forms. Yami's origins are unclear, as very little is said about him until the very end of Okami, and his very existence is only revealed after Amaterasu confronts Ninetails at the peak of Oni Island. Ninetails describes Yami as being "the absolute ruler of all evil beings" and "the ultimate symbol of darkness". In Ōkamiden it's revealed that he had been the vessel of darkness for Akuro, likely willingly, given the dark spirit's unusual reverence for the demon.

I'm glad Tatsunoko VS Capcom has a "super sized" boss to succeed the likes of Apocalypse, Onslaught and Abyss from the Marvel VS series. Overall, Yami is a pretty fun boss to fight, but like the previous VS series bosses, is also rather easy to beat. Yami lacks the personality and charisma that a good boss design should have, but visually, Yami does his/its job as the final boss. Definitely not the best fighting game boss we've seen, but not too bad either.
