NetherRealm Studios Cancels Final Kombat 2020 LCQ Last-Minute Due to Growing Coronavirus Fears

Originally set for this weekend (March 7th-8th), Last Chance Qualifier event Final Kombat 2020 has been canceled due to growing concerns over Coronavirus. NRS Esports' last-minute cancellation (less than 24 hours before the actual event) is especially unfortunate, since 100's of players have already traveled to Chicago for the event and checked into their hotels. WB Games told attendees with non-refundable travel charges to contact them on Twitter in an effort to resolve some of these issues. It's a pretty bad situation all around (and could've been easily avoided with an earlier cancellation decision / announcement). On the bright side, NRS will still be livestreaming the event (without a live audience) during the originally scheduled time. MK11 fans can still expect a Spawn gameplay reveal and new Mortal Kombat: Scorpion's Revenge trailer this weekend.

Final Kombat's staff and the top 16 competitors will still be able to enter the event, but once again no live audience will be in attendance. NRS said they will be refunding tickets to those who purchased in advance.

Below is the full statement from NetherRealm Studios.

*A friendly reminder to take Coronavirus seriously and WASH YOUR HANDS several times a day to prevent the spread of the virus.

*Another friendly reminder for tournament / event organizers to give attendees more than 24 hours notice before canceling your events. A week or more would be nice.
