A
primary hero in the Mortal Kombat saga, Kitana is the princess of
Edenia and the daughter of Queen Sindel.
She is over 10,000 years old, although she appears only to be in her mid
twenties to early thirties. Through the years, she has risen to great importance,
first as the loyal stepdaughter of Shao
Kahn; then his enemy, tearing herself away from his grasp and freeing
her home realm of Edenia; and then leading an army into Outworld to combat
any chance of Shao Kahn rising to power again. Kitana is a strong combination
of discipline, intelligence, love, and perseverance. She shared a subtle
love interest with Earthrealm champion Liu Kang,
until he was murdered by the Deadly Alliance. She has aligned herself on
the good side, despite her loyalty to Shao Kahn for most of her life until
learning the truth about her past and real family. Mileena

Kitana (and her sister)
made a
pretty big buzz when MK2 launched in 1993. It was like nobody ever saw a
sexy ninja girl with a fan before! lol. Although somewhat original,
Kitana's early outfit could easily be called a rip-off of Psylocke's...
I think someone over at Midway was a Marvel fan. ;) Anyhow, Kitana introduced a cool new fighting
style to the MK series, as well as some memorable (and perhaps cheap) combos for the time. Her design translated well to several other
installments of MK, but perhaps lost some spark in a couple of the later games.
Her MK9
incarnation thankfully brought her design back up to speed. Her personality is still
kinda sleepy, but overall, her MK9 appearance and moveset took her design
to the next level. Her MKX rendition wasn't bad either. Kitana has had a wide variety of outfits
over the years, some
good... some bad... like most MK characters. ;) On a side note, Midway definitely based her MK4 facial model after Jennifer Lopez.
LOL. I think they just photoshopped her face in, actually. lmao. Anyway,
I'm glad to see her return in MK11. Her latest rendition might be her
best ever!
