Real name Jubilation
Lee, Jubilee was born and raised in sunny Southern California by wealthy
Chinese-American immigrant parents. She lived a life of luxury and privilege
until tragedy struck. When her parents were murdered in a botched robbery, her
wealthy lifestyle vanished overnight, leaving her orphaned and forced to fend
for herself. This lead her to run away, but she eventually found a temporary
home inside the bustling halls of the Hollywood Mall. It was there that her
mutant powers first manifested during a moment of high stress and panic—unleashing
a dazzling cascade of multicolored, explosive energy from her fingertips.
Caught by mall security, she was saved by the X-Man Storm, who discovered the
young runaway and brought her to the safety of the X-Mansion.
Quickly adopted as the
"little sister" of the X-Men, Jubilee brought a much-needed
injection of youth, pop-culture snark, and street-smart resilience to a team
often bogged down by heavy cosmic drama and tragic burdens. Despite her
seemingly playful and reckless demeanor, Jubilee possesses a fierce loyalty
and deep-seated courage, proving time and again that she can stand
shoulder-to-shoulder with the universe's mightiest mutants.
Jubilee's powers and
abilities include Plasmoid Generation: Jubilee can create and detonate bursts
of multi-colored pyrotechnic energy from her hands. Sub-Atomic Control: She
has total mental control over these energy bursts—she can make them harmless
sparklers for entertainment, dazzling flashbangs to blind opponents, or
concentrated sub-atomic micro-detonations powerful enough to blow through
reinforced steel or crush armor. Acrobatic Agility: Gifted with the natural
reflexes of an elite street survivor and further honed by X-Men combat
training, she is exceptionally fast, highly mobile, and specializes in
hit-and-run tactics.
Jubilee’s closest
and most defining bond is with Wolverine,
who served as her fierce surrogate father and mentor during their
globetrotting adventures together, while she also shares a close, respectful
dynamic with field leader Cyclops
and her first rescuer, Storm.
Additionally, she maintains a playful, sibling-like camaraderie with fellow
troublemaker Gambit
through their shared love for street-smart snark, and stands in stark
opposition to Magneto,
whose violent crusades left deep emotional scars on her and her closest
mentors.

Jubilee was one
of the first assist characters I remember seeing in MVC1. It was a bittersweet
feeling... happy she was in the game, very very very sad she was not an actual
playable character. We take what we can get back in 1999. Those were the good
old days, huh? Man, I never expected the X-Men to blow up in the way they did. I
was a fan of X-Men when it wasn't that popular. If you know, you know. We
were the lucky ones.
Jubilee finally arrives as a proper fighting game character 25+ years after her
assist character debut? "FIREWORKS!" Useless no more. Can't wait to
see her in Tokon!
