 The
fighting game genre has been profoundly shaped by the legacy of SNK's Fatal
Fury series, and a new publication from Bitmap Books offers an
unprecedented deep dive into this history. Titled Fatal Fury/Garou
Densetsu: The Ultimate History, this comprehensive volume serves as a
definitive chronicle of the franchise, spanning 35 years of development
from the original 1991 arcade release to the modern Fatal
Fury: City of the Wolves.
The book is a 468-page
hardback production that functions as a visual and historical love letter
to the series, featuring high-quality lithographic printing and special
Pantone ink throughout. The publication provides exclusive access
to SNK’s vast internal archives, including rare concept sketches,
promotional illustrations, and cover art by legendary artists such as
Shinkiro, TONKO, and Eiji Shiroi. Beyond the visuals, the book is
informed by candid interviews with key developers, including pixel artists
Hitoshi Okamoto, Youichiro Soeda, and Nobuyuki Kuroki, designer Takeshi
Kimura, and SNK Chief Producer Yasuyuki Oda, who also penned the book's
