| Well
this was unexpected... so the rumored "Pokemon fighting
game" some gaming sites were talking about a few months back is
actually a thing! Coming to Japan arcades in 2015, POKKEN TOURNAMENT is
a collaboration by Pokemon Company and Bandai Namco Games (with
supervision by Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada & Soul
Calibur lead programmer, Masaaki Hoshino). Below is the first gameplay
trailer for POKKEN TOURNAMENT, which strangely features a Tekken
      soundtrack! Wow... just wow.
  In case you were
wondering, that BGM is a remixed Tekken 5 track. (Makes me wonder
if any Tekken references will actually cross over to the title).
Well, if there's one thing the last decade of fighting games has taught
me... it's that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.
I'm no Pokemon fan (although my girlfriend does play the latest
games), but dare I say this title looks almost interesting? Even though my Pokemon knowledge is limited, I'm actually intrigued
to see how this turns out. (However, don't expect full TFG news coverage
      or anything)!
  Here are the first
details on the title, as revealed by Tekken producer Katsuhiro
Harada on a livestream after the official announcement in Japan:
 According to Harada, POKKEN
TOURNAMENT will not use Tekken's gameplay engine and will be
"something completely new". The game won't be heavy on technical
gameplay and will be focused mainly on action. Harada also stated that
there will be no Tekken characters in the game. (Sorry Kuma, you're
not a Pokemon. Neither are you Alex).

      [UPDATE]

       Harada also stated on
Twitter that POKKEN TOURNAMENT will not contain a high/mid/low
guard system mechanic. Instead, a "new type of mechanic" will be
      used.
Pokemon Company CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara, strongly hinted at a future
console release of POKKEN TOURNAMENT after the game hits arcades in
2015. (Eventual Wii U release imminent?). Ishihara stated that while there
are already Pokemon arcade games out in Japan, this title will give
fans a new way to enjoy Pokemon... and a "fighting action
game" was the natural choice for working with Bandai Namco.

Finally, current Soul Calibur producer Masaaki Hoshino didn't give
any particular details about the title... but did claim to be a big fan of
      Pokemon himself.
