Latest Street Fighter V Concept Art Includes SFEX2 Characters & More Alternate Costumes

This weekend's roundup of Capcom's latest Street Fighter V concept artwork reintroduces Street Fighter EX2 characters (whom we haven't seen in a very long time) and includes even more alternate costumes. As usual, some of the concept artwork is accompanied by official bios / comments from Capcom's CFN Portal. [UPDATE] Added Sharon bio, Shadowgeist concept artwork (with bio), Juri Han secret costume (with bio), higher quality Area & Vulcano Rosso concept artworks (with bios), and new costume artwork for Alex, R. Mika & Guile.

Intro: To close things out, we've got the woman with "Iron Eyes," Area!

Private Nakagawa: An inventor girl. She brims with curiosity, but once she fixates onto something, she can't see anything else in her surroundings anymore. She fights using "Cancer" equipment, developed from her father, who is also an inventor. She takes part in fighting tournaments in order to attract worldwide attention and appeal, as well as to obtain new data for Cancer and her father's inventions. Apparently, amidst all the fighters, she likes Mecha Zangief.

NIN: We have a special comment and illustrations from our Mihara. [Ichirō Mihara, a mangaka and ARIKA's Vice President, as well as the company's co-founder with Nishitani.]

Mihara: Nowadays, Area has far surpassed her father's skills as an inventor.

Private Nakagawa: Born in Bari, Apulia. He was a member of an organization that seized Europe, but due to a traitor, he lost his beloved one. This motive lead him to leave the organization, and he became a vindictive rebel, burning with vengeance. In his days as a member, he went into contact with the American "Crackers." He got to know Jack, a masterful bouncer and competent bodyguard. Even today, we have a comment from our Senior colleague!

NIN: The concept was of a pseudo-kung-fu expert. His "vulcanus" (from the Latin name of Vulcan, the ancient Roman God of Fire) projectile had a leaf bud-like shape, and its tuning gave me the chills. I loved his "Tameiki no Hashi," (literally translated from the Italian Ponte dei sispiri, aka "Bridge of Sighs," a famed bridge in Venice) both in name and in appearance!

Intro: A young man who wields and is from Kukunochimura. His father is a legendary swordsman who, on his own, exterminated the demon Orochi from the village. He's a sword character, which is a rarity for Street Fighter.

Bio: He works with exorcising ghosts and evil spirits. He keeps fighting, day after day, in order to defeat an ominous demon who is encompassed with blue and white-colored energy. Once more, we have comments from Mr. Nin!

Nin: During development, his move Tsumuji Kagerou Kyoku was called "UFO!" internally. Ever since that, I've never been able to see it as anything but a UFO, and there was a period where I couldn't stop laughing whenever the move was performed.

Intro: The younger sister of Hokuto, Mizukami Kobujutsu's successor. She doesn't just use Kobujutsu, but also wields a staff. It's an amazing staff that even extends.

Bio: Kairi's younger sister by blood. Nanase has no memories of Kairi, and instead searches for her beloved older sister Hokuto, who has gone missing. She's cheerful, bright and full of vigor. Yet again, some words from Mr. Nin!

Nin: When we decided to have her staff extend and shrink, we ran into some practical problems. We also had a lot of trouble tryin to adjust the crossup potential of her "Kasumi Oroshi". In Street Fighter EX 3, it was a lot of fun to thrust down two opponents at once.

Intro: Another one! Another weirdo! He seems more rugged and cool than the last weirdo, though... Hm? ... He's a hero? ... Really?

Bio: In a country ruled by a cruel dictatorship, his wife was slaughtered and his only daughter went missing. In order to avenge them, he went through rigorous strengthening of his body, turning into a tragic hero. He also fights to protect the poor citizens of this ravaged country. This background was way rougher than I'd imagined. Apparently, he also has a self-destruction device embedded within his body. Once again, some comments from Mr. Nin!

Nin: He's so cool! This is one of my favorite designs. I really like mysterious monsters and mysterious fighters. His super move, "Death Energy", draws his opponent towards him, but it had so many bugs we had to worked out, I feel bitter remembering it...

Intro: The beautiful woman with rose-colored hair. Her public identity is as a priestess of a monastery. But her actual true identity is an agent of a secret service!

Bio: She was raised in a monastery in France as an orphaned child. As a young girl, she dreamed of reuniting with her parents who she had never met. She brushes up her skills until she becomes known as an A-class spy, and is then tasked with the assassination of a certain individual... She has a tattoo of a rose by the pit of her stomach. She is a specialist at using guns. Again, some comments from Mr. Nin!

Nin: While I do quite like her design, I still feel like she leaves a pretty weak impression, which makes me sad. Within the colorful cast of the EX series, she feels surprisingly regular, I guess? Even with the rose tattoo and a lot of other interesting touches to her character... Maybe I should ask the people in charge to expand on her story even further, haha.

CFN Portal description: Here are some more alternate costumes we unfortunately did not end up having in the game. But, with these ones, we might put them in after all if we get many requests for them! This time, our theme was "heroes" and "history".

(Balrog): Those iron spheres gloves he's got on look like they'd hurt a lot. We imagined him as a gladiator. It's got a pretty good feeling, right?

(Zangief): He's got horns and a mantle, which are all gorgeous. Truly, a great hero! He feels like he'd say "Speak up, I can't hear you!", huh.

(Chun-Li): We modeled her after roughly 12th century China. She feels like something out of that classic novel "Water Margin". That's a meat bun in her hand.

(Urien): He's totally a king of Persia. And very cinematic. A skinheaded ruler feels like a novelty.

CFN Portal closing: And that's what we've got! We quite liked the concept of heroes and history, but if possible we'd like to tie the costumes to famous heroes from each character's country of origin.

This alternate version of Juri is called "Evil Storm". The mysterious woman who manipulates the sinister wind. She doesn't belong to any organization, but the mysterious warrior enjoys battle. Apparently a mysterious energy material is hidden underneath her eye patch.
