Modders Add Motion Controls to -STRIVE-
and TEKKEN 7
|
|
In
the past, certain fighting games have experimented with motion control
gameplay systems or options as a novelty. While unpractical and unreliable
for competitive play, the concept of motion controls for modern fighting
games has resurfaced thanks to Xbox Kinect implementation via modding. A
modder who goes by Super Louis 64 recently posted a video of
himself on Twitter using motion controls in Guilty Gear -STRIVE-
to control Potemkin.
Interestingly enough, Louis was able to program the mod to match Potemkin's
animations for basic attacks and even his command grab with his own
similar motions (and clearly he had fun doing so)! Watch Louis's Twitter
video below for the full presentation.
After
seeing Super Louis 64's Guilty Gear -STRIVE- motion control video, TEKKEN commentator and streamer Reepal "Rip"
Parbhoo decided to try his hand at implementing motion controls into TEKKEN
7 using the same Kinect mod. After demonstrating a basic 3-hit
combo by Bryan Fury
which ends with an entertaining item move, Rip even takes it a step
further by programming a wavedash with Kazuya
while himself performing a heavy metal head-banging motion.
|
Obviously,
it would take an unfathomable amount of time and effort to program a
motion input for every single move a character has (especially in a
game like TEKKEN where most characters have 100+ moves) — not to
mention implement the 3D / sidestep aspect of the game and actually
manage to use motion inputs effectively in gameplay.
Even if it's
unpractical for competition, clearly the modders were having fun programming
their own unique motions for specific moves... and the result was highly entertaining for the rest of us.
Great
job with these videos, guys!
