Street Fighter 6
Gameplay Reveal
|
|
During
Sony's State of Play presentation, Capcom dropped the first ever
gameplay trailer for Street Fighter 6... and
announced the game will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox
Series X|S, and Steam in 2023. Without spoiling too much out of the
gate, the new trailer confirms several new SF6 characters will be
playable and reveals a "World Tour" single-player story mode.
In Capcom's words, "World Tour is a single-player immersive story
mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows you
to leave your own legacy within SF6 with your player avatar". World
Tour also appears to be connected to Online mode where you'll
encounter other player avatars on the streets of... Metro City. Yeah,
there are some heavy Final Fight influences in the new
trailer! Capcom's official
website is also live with first details, character profiles, and
screenshots.
FIGHTING GROUND: Continuing
the tradition of being a genre leader, the pinnacle of fighting games can
be found in this mode. With a highly evolved combat system, experience the
stunning innovation for yourself. Arcade Mode, Online matches, Training
Mode, Local Versus battles, and more can be found in Fighting Ground.
WORLD TOUR: World Tour is an
immersive single player story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a
fighting game is. Players create their own avatar to carve out their own legend on the streets!
Players will also encounter familiar locations and characters in World
Tour mode.
BATTLE
HUB: The
Battle Hub is the ultimate place for players to seek out friendly
rivalries. What can you do in the Battle Hub? Stay tuned for more news!
DRIVE SYSTEM: The Drive System is a
gauge you'll need to manage wisely and one that is ripe with creativity.
You can utilize the Drive Gauge to perform five different techniques that
can easily enhance your offense or defense. A Drive Impact is a
powerful strike that can absorb an opponent's incoming attack and can lead
to a wall splat. Use Drive Parry to repel your opponent's attack
and refill your Drive Gauge. Cancel out of a Drive Parry or normal attack
into a Drive Rush to quickly close in on your opponent.
Overdrive Arts are similar to EX Moves from past games that power
up your Special Moves. Use Drive Reversal to perform a
counterattack to get you out of tight situations. One gauge, five
techniques, unlimited possibilities. Use your creativity to choose which
technique to utilize and when.
GRAPHICS ENGINE:
Capcom's Teaser
Trailer back in February
hinted at a more hyper-realistic look for Street Fighter 6. The
game is being developed on Capcom's own RE Engine – previously used to
create Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and Devil May Cry
5. With
the RE Engine, you’ll notice enhanced visuals in every aspect of the
game. Beads of sweat will roll down across skin, muscles will tense up
when used, and cherry blossom petals will flitter and twirl in line with a
character’s movement. Pair this graphics upgrade with the explosive
splashes of paint and the striking graffiti treatment, and you’ll end up
with an art style distinct to SF6.
CONTROLS:
The standard 6-button
control type for the series remains intact. Effective at high level play where complete
control over your character is a must. Players can freely customize their
button layout, allowing for a wide range of fighting styles. There will
also be a Simple Controls mode available for beginners.

v
CHUN-Li:
A former high-kicking
ICPO agent, Chun-Li looks after Li-Fen, a victim of the Black Moon
Incident. With Shadaloo sundered, she now runs kung fu classes, and has
become a well-loved member of the local community.
|
LUKE: A
contractor for a PMC, Luke uses his elite military background to teach
mixed martial arts. His days off are spent eating junk food, playing video
games, and fighting, but make no mistake—Luke plays to win.
|
JAMIE:
This self-styled
Chinatown peacekeeper aspires to the example set by Yun and Yang, the Twin
Dragons. An expert dancer, Jamie places justice and friendship above all
else, defending his town with martial skill.
|
RYU:
Ever training, this
martial artist seeks true strength. Well-mannered and sincere, Ryu travels
the globe in search of worthy opponents. Having overcome the Satsui no
Hado, he now seeks yet greater heights.

Capcom
also released a second Street Fighter 6 trailer (below)
announcing a Real Time Commentary feature in the game.
Several commentators from around the world will be featured in the game,
offering their pre-recorded voices and advice to anyone's match for
analysis. The Real Time Commentary trailer shows some additional gameplay
footage.
PlayStation.Blog
also published an article revealing new gameplay information, details,
and even more videos showing special moves for Ryu, Chun-Li, Jamie, and Luke.

One
of Chun-Li's female students, named Li-Fen, is another new playable
character in Street Fighter 6. Capcom will reveal more details
about her in the near future. A second unrevealed female character named Kimberly
also makes a brief appearance in the official trailer (and will possibly be
revealed later on this month). Below is the official teaser image of
Kimberly.

[UPDATE]
Speaking
of Kimberly... leaked concept illustrations of 22 characters have possibly revealed the initial launch roster of Street Fighter 6.
