EVO Japan Returns to Tokyo in Spring 2023

It's been officially announced that EVO Japan will return as a live event next year, taking place in Tokyo between March and April 2023. EVO manager Rick Thiher confirmed EVO Japan 2023's main tournament games will include TEKKEN 7, Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and The King of Fighters XV. The event organizers mentioned they will be announcing additional tournament games and details in Fall 2022. Next year's EVO Japan will take place March 31st - April 2nd, 2023 at the Tokyo Big Sight venue featuring competitors from around the world. Below is the official teaser trailer for EVO Japan '23.

The first inaugural EVO Japan event took place back in January 2018. EVO Japan is the first and only Evolution Championship Series event taking place outside of the USA. Like this past weekend's EVO 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada, EVO Japan 2023 will be the tournament's first live event since the 2020 global pandemic. EVO Japan 2020 was one of the last major fighting game tournaments before the COVID-19 pandemic put live events on a hiatus.

"It is joyous having EVO Japan return to Tokyo for the global fighting game community," said Rick Thiher, EVO General Manager. "Japan is the birthplace of competitive fighting games and we can’t wait to open the doors at Tokyo Big Sight next spring to continue celebrating their legacy with players and fans worldwide."

The official website for EVO Japan 2023 is now live and will be updated with more information later this year. The organizers also recently launched @EVOJapan2023 on Twitter and their official Youtube channel.

Like the main EVO tournament in Las Vegas, developers of featured games at EVO Japan have announced major news and reveals during the event in past years. It's likely the 2023 live event from Japan will bring along major announcements, as well. Stay tuned on Fighters Generation for more fighting game news!
