Fatal
Fury: First Contact
REVIEW:
Fatal Fury: 1st Contact is basically a NEOGEO Pocket "remix" of Real
Bout Fatal Fury 2, featuring most of the same gameplay elements, characters,
and backgrounds from the original arcade game. First Contact also features an exclusive
character, Lao (who appears defeated by Xiangfei and Rick Stroud in the
animated intro in Real Bout Fatal Fury 1). Lao is playable only in the 2-player versus mode of Fatal Fury: 1st Contact.

Another NEOGEO Pocket
Color classic!
|
Fatal Fury: 1st Contact
is the second fighting
game to be ported specifically for the NEOGEO Pocket, and sports great-looking chibi 2D sprites, artwork, and quality graphics on SNK's handheld system. The gameplay
actually feels a lot like Real Bout 2, and is a fun and simple handheld
fighter for 1999. SNK did
an awesome job of transforming the Real Bout cast into tiny, big-headed character sprites, which still retain nearly all of their iconic moves and
personalities... the
facial expressions during gameplay are priceless!

Words: |
Fatal Fury: 1st Contact is another charming 2D fighter exclusive to the NEOGEO Pocket. It's nice to see a fighting game made with the intent of being a handheld game (rather than a shoddy port of an arcade fighting game, which was common in the mid
90's.)
If you're a hardcore fan of the Fatal Fury Real Bout series, you should definitely check out 1st Contact for the fan service alone. It's not the
deepest or most fun 2D fighter on the NeoGeo Pocket... but the graphics are nice, the character roster is solid, and is playable! It's pretty much must-have title for any NeoGeo Pocket Color owner.
