Team Ninja Director Clarifies Statement on Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden "Reboots"

Last weekend during "G-Con x IGC" — an event in Busan, South Korea — Team Ninja president Fumihiko Yasuda held a short presentation where he briefly talked about future Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja projects and goals. During the presentation, a slide showing two screenshots was displayed suggesting "reboots" of Team Ninja's Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series are planned or possibly in development. While the initial news spread quickly on social media (without the facts) and already got some fans excited, we now have more clarification on what the Team Ninja president actually said during the presentation...

After the slide (above) circulated online, Gematsu, among other gaming news outlets, reached out to Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei for clarification and asked for additional details on Yasuda's statement during the event. *It's also worth noting that both screenshots above are from previous titles.

Team Ninja creative director Tom Lee made the following statement in response to Gematsu. Here it is below.

As the statement reads, creative director Tom Lee reaffirmed the desire to eventually bring back two of Team Ninja's most defining series with modern reboots. However, the director did NOT confirm that a new Dead or Alive or Ninja Gaiden title is currently in development.

"It goes without saying that when speaking about the development of our past and future projects, both of these important titles cannot be left without mention. However, there are no details or information to share on either of these franchises at this present time.

"Like many of our dedicated fans, we share the enthusiasm for the return of these beloved titles. And we will be sure to provide a proper update
(if and) when that day arrives," said Team Ninja creative director, Tom Lee.

Currently, Team Ninja is working on two separate action-RPGs: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Rōnin, planned for release in 2023 and in 2024 respectively. Considering the fact that Team Ninja is currently busy creating these two massive and high production action titles, it's unlikely Team Ninja are also developing a new 3D fighting game or Ninja Gaiden reboot at the same time.

But of course, we'll keep you updated if we hear anything about a Dead or Alive sequel going forward. Thanks for reading... and Happy Thanksgiving!
