EVO Japan 2023 Lineup Adds 3 New Games

Back in August, it was announced that EVO Japan will return as a live event early next year, taking place March 31st through April 2nd, 2023. EVO manager Rick Thiher previously announced EVO Japan 2023's main tournament games will include TEKKEN 7, Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and The King of Fighters XV. Three more games have now been confirmed for EVO Japan '23, bringing the total number of mainstage titles to seven. The three new EVO Japan 2023 tournament games are Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, Granblue Fantasy Versus, and Melty Blood: Type Lumina. In addition to displaying what might be the "final" games list, the latest EVO Japan 2023 promotional image (below) confirms registration will officially open up later this month on November 20th, 2022 (12:00 JST).

*While these seven games are the "major" titles that will appearing on the EVO Japan 2023 mainstage and streaming to audiences worldwide, there's still a chance that additional titles could be added to the lineup in the months to come. Capcom has not yet confirmed if a Street Fighter 6 exhibition or tournament will take place at EVO Japan '23.

Back in August of this year, EVO manager Rick Thiher had this to say about EVO Japan returning as a live event... "It is joyous having EVO Japan return to Tokyo for the global fighting game community," said Thiher. "Japan is the birthplace of competitive fighting games and we can’t wait to open the doors at Tokyo Big Sight next spring to continue celebrating their legacy with players and fans worldwide." Once again, below is the official EVO Japan 2023 teaser trailer.

The first ever inaugural EVO Japan event took place back in January 2018. EVO Japan is the first and only Evolution Championship Series event taking place outside of the USA. Like EVO 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada, EVO Japan 2023 will be the tournament's first live event since the 2020 global pandemic. EVO Japan 2020 was one of the final major fighting game tournaments before the COVID-19 pandemic put live events on a hiatus.

Additional information and details are available on the EVO Japan official site. Once again, the link to register for the tournament
will go live two weeks from now on Sunday, November 20th, 2022 (12:00 JST). As always, please stay tuned on Fighters Generation for upcoming fighting game news and announcements!
