EX Layer Released on PS4, Launch Trailer

What began as an April
Fools joke last year has evolved into a new (yet nostalgic) 2.5D fighting game.
Arika has released Fighting EX Layer on PlayStation 4 as a digital title,
with "Light" $39.99 and "Standard" $59.99 versions currently
available for purchase. DLC color packs are also live for several characters,
ranging from $4.99 to $9.99 each. To celebrate the release of FEXL, Arika
uploaded a launch
trailer for the game.

Strangers Heads West August 28th, Release Date Announce Trailer, Game Modes

Nicalis announced that
Blade Strangers is coming westward on August 28th, 2018 (two days before the
Japanese release). The indie crossover 2D fighter will offer a traditional and
streamlined 4-button control scheme, aiming to attract both casual and
experienced fighting game players. Confirmed modes, include: Story, Arcade,
Challenge, Survival, Versus, Online, Tutorial, Training, and more. Nicalis
also uploaded a new release date announcement trailer.

King of Fighters Collection: Orochi Saga Now Available on PlayStation 4

Out of the blue, SNK
released The King of Fighters Collection: Orochi Saga on PlayStation 4
for $14.99. Originally released on PS2 over a decade ago, this compilation
package includes the first 5 games of the series: KOF '94 through KOF
'98. The port is still based on the PS2 version, which includes Color Edit
mode and the Arrange soundtrack option. On Youtube, SNK uploaded a 2-minute trailer
for the PS4 release of KOF Collection: Orochi Saga.

Veteran Soul Calibur players
across the globe are gearing up for what's looking to be the best competitive Soul
Calibur game since arguably the pinnacle of the series, Soul Calibur 2.
The gameplay of SC6 looks fast and furious, with enticing new mechanics

On Twitter, Vice
President of Arika, Ichiro Mihara, posted a teaser image of SFEX series
veteran Pullum Purna. The "possible" return of Pullum was previously
announced by Arika in the way of concept art back in March. The fact that this image
shows Pullum's in-game character model almost confirms she'll appear in the game
in the future. Arika still hasn't clarified how character DLC will be released
for the game.

To date, Capcom has released Street
Fighter V crossover costumes based on characters from the likes of: Viewtiful
Joe, Darkstalkers, Star Gladiator and Ghosts & Goblins.
The latest crossover costumes
coming to SFV: Arcade Edition hail from Capcom's Devil May Cry and
Megaman series. In this set, Ken Masters gets a Dante costume, Ed will
dress as Nero, Laura cosplays as Gloria, and lastly, Rashid dons a ful-fledged
Airman costume.

Next week, Fighting EX
Layer comes out on PlayStation 4, marking the return of many Street
Fighter EX personalities who haven't been in the spotlight since the PS1/PS2
era. Today, Arika released a new trailer
showing the subtle graphical differences between the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions.
The trailer also shows the first (clear) in-game footage of Vulcano Rosso -
which pretty much confirms him as a post-launch DLC character!

Character Packs #2 and #3 cost $4.99 each, while Yuan Xiao Long is completely

Capcom posted Cody's full
movelist ahead of his upcoming release (from prison?) in Street Fighter V:
Arcade Edition on June 26th, 2018. Cody's SFV iteration contains tons
of throwbacks to his humble 2D side-scrolling origins, including: the names of
certain moves, move inputs, and of course, details in the animation. Get a head

Nintendo released a new SNK Heroines: Tag Team
Frenzy trailer that confirms KOF XIV's Mian for the roster. Just
over a minute, the new gameplay
trailer shows some interesting tag-team combos with Mian and Luong working
as "A Mysterious Duo". In addition to showing off her kung-fu, Mian's
"shy" personality can be seen in her official alternate costume
artwork (also in the trailer). SNK Heroines comes to PS4 and Switch on September
7th, 2018.

Here at TFG, we
particularly respect and love fighting games and fighting game developers who
put "artwork" at the forefront of their game design. Already, Bandai
Namco's Takuji Kawano has shown us some breathtakingly detailed illustrations
for Soul Calibur VI's characters. The artistic inspiration will continue
in SC6's "Soul Chronicle" story mode. We're pretty certain KOF
series veteran Hiroaki is behind these amazing illustrations
which will appear in the game's story mode.

During Nintendo's E3
presentation, it was revealed that Arc System Works is bringing Dragon Ball
FighterZ to the conveniently portable Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018. The
Switch version is already in playable form at E3 2018 (booth #1647).

This afternoon at E3,
Bandai Namco released the Soul Calibur VI story trailer and finally announced
the game's release date - October 19th, 2018. Additionally, they announced a
Collector's Edition for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, featuring a 120 page art
book, soundtrack, 12" Sophitia figure, metal case, and more. The SC6 Season
Pass was also announced, which contains 3 playable characters and 2 armor packs.

If you can't wait to
revisit the tale of souls and swords, you must feast your eyes on these 4K quality Soul
Calibur VI matches from E3 2018. It's the highest quality footage
we've seen of the game thus far. Curiously, some of the new captured 4K footage
is "slower" than the normal gameplay speed... but at least these
videos provide
an opportunity to appreciate the crispy visuals, animation, and new moves.

SNK posted a 12-minute
online presentation video
to show off the Neo Geo Mini console. The video runs through all of the NGM's
specs and features, and unveils the official games list for both the Japanese

look back at Neo Geo history, featuring commentary by original SNK designer

With E3 2018 now
officially underway, we have some more great fighting game news. Soul Calibur
VI producer Motohiro Okubo sat down with IGN to show off brand new SC6
gameplay. The video shows the
first raw in-game footage of newly announced characters like Geralt, Taki, Maxi,
and Siegfried. There's several full matches showing almost every playable
character to date, along with at least 2 brand new stages - since they're using
a brand new build of the game.

is set to debut at the end of this month on June 28th. Arika released a new
English trailer
for the game which basically previews the game's characters, modes, and Gougi
selection. The end of the trailer reveals several DLC color sets for various
characters. There will also be some optional but cool-looking (and very shiny)
"Gold/Silver" DLC colors that players can purchase.

or Alive 6 video
interview with gameplay from E3 '18. In the video, Game Director Yohei Shimbori
answers some questions about DOA6 and drops some major new details. Here
are some of the bullet points: The core mechanics will remain the same,
appealing to casual players is going to be a "major sales point," and
a Nintendo Switch version is not in development. When asked about DLC plans, Yohei said "They haven't thought that far ahead."

Koei Tecmo revealed today
that Dead or Alive 6 is in development and is planned for a 2019 release
on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam! The reveal trailer
begins with some cinematics and transitions into gameplay. So far... DOA6
seems to have a more "mature" vibe, with less of an emphasis on skimpy
costumes and more focus on stage interactions, dynamic camera angles, facial

sat down with TEKKEN series producer Katsuhiro Harada for a interview
of sorts. The release of Noctis marked the end of TEKKEN 7's announced
post-launch DLC content... and fans have been wondering if there will be more.
In the interview, Harada said "TEKKEN 7 sales have met expectations, I
believe we have enough good will to ask for further investment. So, yes, I think

announced during their recent Japanese stream that the original Guilty Gear will
be getting a digital re-release on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Steam.
Aksys didn't mention any release window or additional details regarding the
port, but did remind everyone that the series is celebrating its 20th
anniversary today! Guilty Gear originally released on May 14th, 1998.

Coming to consoles in Summer
2018, Blade Strangers is a 2D fighter putting a variety of characters,
from a variety of different games (and some original), into 1 fighting game. The
latest "guest character" to be added to Blade Strangers is
Isaac from the indie-hit, Binding of Isaac. In addition to this
announcement, Nicalis released a full character gameplay
trailer showing what Isaac can do in the game. And wow... just wow.

SNK Officially Confirms
"Neo Geo Mini" as Their 40th Anniversary Hardware

The leak was true! SNK
has officially announced
the Neo Geo Mini. The collectible mini-system features a full functioning: a
3.5" screen, 40 games, an HDMI port, 2 controller ports on either side, and
customizable marquee & stickers. Additional information will be released by

Ball FighterZ will receive an update on May 9th, adding new features and a
balance patch. New features include: Party Battle, FighterZ Cup, Combo
Challenge, Replay Channel, and updates to Training Mode. All fighters received

Leaked Images of SNK's
"Neo Geo Mini" Arcade Cabinet with 40 Games, HDMI, Extra Controller

Last month, SNK announced that
they are working on a new hardware to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary.
If these leaked images
are actually real, SNK's new hardware is called the "Neo Geo Mini".
Although this hasn't yet been confirmed by SNK, early reports are saying this
mini arcade cabinet features 40 games, an HDMI port, and comes with an
extra Neo Geo CD inspired controller, customizable marquee, and stickers. No
release date or pricing details are available yet.

Fighter: 30th Anniv. Collection Capcom Retrospective Video on SF1/SF2

With Street Fighter: 30th
Anniversary Collection releasing at the end of this month, Capcom has
uploaded the first part of in their new retrospective video series. The first video
is full 15-minutes long, covering Street Fighter 1 and the entire Street
Fighter 2 series. It's a great watch for players new and old, featuring
excellent commentary with fun facts about the humble beginnings of this
30-year-old series.

uploaded 3 new Fighting EX Layer gameplay videos. The first one shows
returning character, Hokuto (confirming her original version as a playable
character in the game). The other two videos
show off content in both the "Standard Version" ($59.99) and
"Light Version" ($39.99). The Light Version trailer also reveals some
brand new gameplay footage of one of the game's newcomers, Sanane.

Cross Tag Battle North America Beta Announced

Two weeks ago, Arc System
Works announced dates & details regarding the BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
beta in Japan (for PS4 & Nintendo Switch). The North America beta has now
officially been announced
for PS4, and closely mirrors the timing of the Japan beta. Players who
pre-ordered gain access to the beta starting May 9th, and all PS4 users can try
the game out on May 12th. The beta features 20 playable characters.

trailer for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy today, confirming two more
female fighters - both who debuted in The King of Fighters XIV. Zarina
and Sylvie join the line-up and are bringing some wild new costumes with them.

Strangers Coming Summer 2018, New Gameplay, Screenshots & Opening Movie

Blade Strangers is an
upcoming 2D fighting game developed by Studio Saizensen and produced by Nicalis.
The title is set to be released this Summer on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch,
and Steam. A new gameplay video
shows off the game's unique visuals, which use 3D renders for characters and
animations that are later touched up by artists to resemble 2D "cel-like"
sprites. Along with the new gameplay, Nicalis released the full opening
cinematic for Blade Strangers.

Arika released a new
teaser trailer for
Fighting EX Layer. The "screenshot-only" trailer shows off the
game's user interface (UI), PS4 trophy support, and a still image of new
character, Sanane. In addition, Arika announced on Twitter that the PS4 Pro
version will run at 1080p with "shader level 3" while the standard PS4
version will run at 720p with "shader level 1". Arika also mentioned FEXL
will release worldwide by the end of June 2018 and are bringing a playable build to
Combo Breaker 2018.

TEKKEN Official
revealed 9 brand new character
art panels drawn by various Bandai Namco artists, including: Takuji Kawano,
Kenji Kimura, Sagara Hiromi, Andou Makoto, and Satoko Nakayama. As you may know,
these artworks can be equipped by players for their characters on the VS screen.
The new artwork panels will be released for the arcade version of TEKKEN 7
on April 26th. Bandai Namco hasn't confirmed when (or if) these will be released
for the home versions.

Back in February 2018,
Hamster Corp. announced the release of Samurai Shodown II and Samurai
Shodown III ACA NeoGeo ports on PS4 / Xbox One, but SS3 only
released in some regions (and wasn't available on PSN in North America). Finally, the PS4
port of Samurai Shodown III is now
available on NA PSN for $7.99. If you're not familiar
with ACA NeoGeo ports, these arcade perfect ports offer several modes,
such as: Japan Version Mode, English Version Mode, Hi Score Mode, Caravan Mode,
and a wide variety of settings.

Gear XX Accent Core Plus R Coming to Nintendo Switch

Today at the Nexon Developers
Conference 2018 in South Korea, Arc System Works announced that Guilty Gear
XX Accent Core Plus R is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Arc System Works'
Daisuke Ishiwatari and Hideyuki Anbe were present at the event to announce that
the Switch version will include original music tracks created by the late Korean
musician, Shin Hae-chul. These tracks appeared in the Korean version of GGXX
#Reload. Arc System Works didn't mention a release date or release window.

Bandai Namco released
official screenshots and
artwork of the latest confirmed DLC character coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ,
Fused Zamasu. A major antagonist of the Future Trunks saga, Zamasu is a fusion
of Goku Black and Future Zamasu through the Potara earrings. Bandai Namco stated
on Facebook that the character is "coming soon" to DBFZ but hasn't

Today, SNK announced
they are currently working on a new hardware to celebrate the company's 40th
anniversary. This new device will feature a collection of classic NeoGeo titles.
SNK specifically mentioned that the following series will be supported for the
new hardware: Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, The King of Fighters,
and Metal Slug (in addition to others). SNK mentioned this project is
fueled with gratitude as SNK wants to thank fans who have supported the works of
SNK over the years.

Costumes Coming to Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night

Sega announced their
upcoming rhythm game Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night will feature Virtua
Fighter series collaboration DLC costumes. An early promotional image
shows 8 cast members dressed as VF characters. Similarly, Persona 5:
Dancing Star Night will feature Yakuza series and Sonic The
Hedgehog-themed DLC costumes. No DLC prices for the costumes have been
announced yet. Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night and Persona 5: Dancing
Star Night will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Japan
on May 24th, 2018.

Fighter V: Arcade Edition Guile Nameless Soldier Crossover Costume

Capcom revealed a new
"Crossover Costume" coming to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.
Guile will be getting a Nameless Super Soldier costume - based on the main
character from the 2D side-scrolling shoot-'em-up game, Forgotten Worlds (1988).
Nameless Soldier also appeared in Marvel VS Capcom (1998) as an assist
character. To obtain this costume, SFV players must play Extra Battle
using Fight Money and complete the weekly challenges for a full month. Check out

Today, SNK announced Blue
Mary as the final DLC character coming to The King of Fighters XIV in the
upcoming version 3.0 update. The fan-favorite grappling goddess, who first
appeared in Fatal Fury 3, returns in KOF XIV with her
bone-snapping throws and hard-hitting strikes. Check out Mary's official reveal

screenshots and commentary by SNK producer Yasuyuki Oda. Blue Mary will join KOF

released a short "behind the scenes" video
on how Final Fantasy XV's Noctis became a playable character in TEKKEN
7. Bandai Namco's Katsuhiro Harada and Square Enix's Hajime Tabata appear in
the video to talk about how this unexpected collaboration came to be. Harada
mentions that ideas of a Final Fantasy and TEKKEN crossover began
way back in the PS1 era, and the opportunity to collaborate in 2018 was too good
to pass up.

As of Tuesday, April 3rd,
three Darkstalkers-inspired costumes
are now available in SFV: Arcade Edition for Urien, Juri, and Menat. The Darkstalkers
costumes cost $3.99 each and come with 10 color variations. While Urien and
Juri's costumes are inspired from well-known playable characters Donovan and
Lilith, Menat's costume is based on a more obscure support character for
Anakaris known as "Khaibit". Capcom also posted the full patch notes
for SFV: Arcade Edition's Season 3 balance update on Capcom Unity.
